Dear ,

Will you help us free the innocent, like Matthew, who have been wrongly convicted and imprisoned?

Matthew was just 17 when he was sentenced to 50 years in prison for a murder he did not commit.

On Jully 30, 1999, Matthew voluntarily went to the police department when he heard they were looking for him in connection to a crime. He knew he was innocent and wanted to clear up the misunderstanding.

That was his last day of freedom.

A month earlier a 20-year-old man had been killed by a shooter who witnesses said had a large dragon tattoo.

Even though Matthew was somewhere else at that time, does not have a dragon tattoo and did not match eyewitness descriptions, he was arrested and convicted of murder.

Today he is 36 and still fighting to clear his name. IIP is standing with him.

Will you join us by making a monthly financial commitment to the Project? Your gift – no matter the size – will help support our daily work to free Matthew and other innocent people in Illinois prisons.

Your $15 each month will help our attorneys visit Matthew and our other clients. Your $25 each month will help us locate and interview a witness who might be able to help Matthew and our other clients. Your $50 each month will help us consult with a forensic expert. Your $100 each month will help us conduct DNA tests that could lead to the discovery of innocence.

I invite you to join our daily fight for the innocent by clicking here to make a recurring gift to IIP, at whatever level you can (under “Payment Information” please select the option “I want to give a gift on a recurring basis”).

With deepest thanks,

John J. Hanlon
